David Mundy, Chair
Principal at Minderoo Foundation | Radio Host & Expert Commentator at 6PR Perth
I am the Chair of the Kai-Fella Board, leading the organisation’s mission to support our youth in developing resilience, leadership, and positive mental well-being. With a background in elite sport, advocacy, and community engagement, I am dedicated to guiding Kai-Fella in creating meaningful, long-term change for young people. Through strong governance, strategic direction, and a compassionate approach, I aim to help young individuals thrive and reach their potential.
In addition to my role at Kai-Fella, I work as a Principal in Embedding Equality, Gender Equality at the Minderoo Foundation, where I focus on advancing equality and social impact. As a radio host and expert commentator at 6PR Perth, I engage with audiences on various social issues, including mental health, leadership, and resilience.
With a 19-season career in the AFL, playing 376 games for the Fremantle Dockers, I had the privilege of serving as captain in 2016 and being a leadership group member from 2009 to 2022. I also proudly represented players as an AFL Players’ Association Delegate. My experience in the world of elite sport gave me a firsthand understanding of the pressures and challenges that come with leadership, and it ignited my passion for advocating for mental resilience and well-being.
Since retiring from football, I have focused on leadership roles that champion advocacy, strategy, and community engagement, particularly around gender equality, youth development, and mental health. Through these roles, I bring a unique skill set of leadership, strategic insight, and the ability to communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
I hold a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Marine Science (Honours) from Murdoch University. My qualifications also include an Executive Certificate in AFL Management, the Company Directors Course through the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and certifications in leadership, management, and mental health first aid.
My passion for marine science continues to fuel my curiosity and learning, alongside my commitment to creating environments where young people can access the tools, mentorship, and resources they need to succeed. I am deeply inspired by Kai-Fella’s vision to provide strong role models, foster positive connections, and build resilience for our youth, and I am committed to growing its reach and impact.
In my spare time, I enjoy being with my family, staying active, and immersing myself in the outdoors. Above all, I believe in the power of self-trust, resilience, and embracing opportunities—values that I aim to instill in the next generation of leaders.
Trust and believe in yourself—embrace every opportunity that comes your way.
