Kai-Fella & Kai Eardley Foundation

Kai-Fella was established in 2018 as a charity to tackle the increasing problem of young people trying to take their own lives.

We started our journey as the Kai Eardley Foundation, honouring the life of Kai.

Initially, we were focussed on helping young men due to the disturbing trends in male suicide and outdated ‘Aussie Male’ stereotypes that don’t support emotional development and help young men express their emotions.

As people fell in love with our rainbow-riding skate-board, we took the opportunity to appeal to the young men and women we’re trying to reach.

Now trading as Kai-Fella, we’re underpinned by The Kai Eardley Foundation, registered charity number 46 208 187 306

The Kai Eardley Foundation, now Kai-Fella, was founded by Claire Eardley, who lost her son Kai to suicide.

Early support and education is vital.

Suicide is the leading cause of death for Australians aged 15-44. 75% of all mental illness will develop before the age of 25 (headspace).

We believe early intervention is the best chance of positive change.

To date, Kai Fella has funded or subsidised Tomorrow People workshops delivered to schools and sporting clubs in Western Australia.

The workshops are engaging and immersive and allow young people to talk about their challenges without judgement. They provide young people with strategies to build emotional muscle with peer support. We are not limited to funding workshops as our only approach.

However, as a ‘grass roots’ registered charitable organisation and custodian of donations, we believe workshops are currently the most direct, transparent, effective and best value way of delivering our mission. Kai Fella will continue to constantly look at the best and most effective strategies for positive change in our community regarding young people’s mental health and wellbeing.
