Karen Burnett, Board Member
I am a proud mother, Registered Nurse, and Stomal Therapist with over 30 years of experience in the healthcare industry. I work as a Business Development Manager and Medical Product Specialist with Convatec, bringing a strong clinical background and a deep commitment to improving patient care.
My nursing journey began at Royal Perth Hospital and Fremantle Hospital after completing a Bachelor of Science in Health Promotion at Curtin University. I later pursued postgraduate training in Stomal Therapy to support patients with complex and sensitive health needs. I spent 25 years at Johnson & Johnson as a Medical Product Specialist before joining Convatec, where I’ve worked for the past four years. My attention to detail and experience have also led me to serve as the board secretary—a role I value deeply.
My involvement with Kai Fella is deeply personal. Kai was a much-loved and extraordinary person in my daughter’s and my life. Watching him struggle with mental illness, and ultimately losing him, was a devastating tragedy. In his memory, I’ve dedicated myself to raising awareness of mental health, breaking the stigma, and supporting young people with the tools and strategies they need to navigate life. This work is a way to commemorate Kai’s life—and to help prevent other families from experiencing the same heartbreak.
Outside of my professional life, I enjoy reformer Pilates, walking, and creating resin homewares and hand-poured candles. I love socialising with friends, trying new restaurants, and cherishing time with my daughters. Music has always been a part of me—I once played the pipe organ at weddings in a Catholic cathedral and even considered becoming a music teacher.
Above all, I believe in living authentically and supporting others with empathy and understanding. Through Kai Fella, I hope to bring comfort, connection, and hope to those who need it most.
