Owen Merrimen

Program Manager

Owen grew up in Boorloo/Perth. He has travelled to over 33 countries, but falls in love with Perth a little more every time he comes home.

With a Masters degree in Engineering, Owen was sailing toward a life in the corporate world, but his curiosity and creativity lead him to all manner of fun side quests.  From science-communication to the TED stage, to founding an internationally-touring arts organisation. Owen enjoys a huge diversity in his hobbies and pursuits; ice-hockey, ultimate frisbee, men’s groups, poetry, drag-performance, clowning, technology, and anything to do with the ocean.

He has training with the Rites of Passage Institute; experience hosting workshops and ceremony circles; mentoring and tutoring; training and coaching; business and community engagement; and a background in performance-making and comedy. For the majority of 2023 and 2024, Owen was travelling the world, performing shows he had co-written to explore important social issues such as sexuality, gender identity, mental health, feminism, archetypes, climate change, waste, and death. After that adventure, there was no going back to normal corporate life for Owen. He was on a mission to work in spaces with deep social impact. Hence, finding his way to Kai-Fella, where he can invest his wealth of facilitation skills into projects he is passionate about, such as helping youth find their confidence and community.
